The papers relate to David's wide research interests, ranging from geological field work to Antarctic data, and also include teaching records from the University of Sydney and the University of London. There is a good deal of material relating to David's work in the use of tunelling and high explosives during World War I. David was an active member of the Royal Society of London (of which he was a Fellow), Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science and the Australian National Research Council. The material is largely manuscript, but includes printed matter and photographs by William Rowan Browne, Archibald Liversidge and Ernest Brougham Docker. Correspondents include F. Included are correspondence and papers relating to the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-1909, Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911-1914, and British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition 1929-1931.
